The 1st Service to the Community Award recognized Detective Baranoski not only for his work as a Middletown Township Police Detective
but for his hard work and dedication to a drug awareness program called NAÏVE, which stands for Narcotics, Alcohol,
Inhalants, and Violence Education.
Due to increasing popularity of heroin in Bucks
County, Detective Baranoski felt that there had to be a better way
to educate the general public about the dangers
of drugs. The number of criminal investigations involving subjects addicted to heroin was staggering - some abusers being identified as heroin addicts before the age of 16. In developing the NAÏVE program, other
programs were viewed such as Philadelphia's
"HEAD's UP" and Delaware's "HEROIN ALERT".
However, NAÏVE was designed specifically for adolescents, parents, and teachers in Bucks
County.
Raised in Philadelphia, Detective Baranoski attended Archbishop
Ryan High School
from which he graduated 19th in his class of 456. Detective Baranoski was sworn in as a Middletown Township Police Department in late 1985 at the age of 20. He served as President of his Police Academy Class in 1986. While
working as a patrolman for Middletown Township, Detective Baranoski earned

with honors, Magna Cum Laude.

attained the rank of Detective and remains
in this position Detective Baranoski has been instrumental
is arresting some of the largest drug dealers in Bucks County.
Although Detective Baranoski dedicated
most of his career to narcotics investigations,
Detective Baranoski had been schooled in several other disciplines associated with his career such as Domestic Terrorism, Computer Crime, and Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. Detective Baranoski was also a certified hostage negotiator.
As a police officer, Det. Baranoski must faced a diversity of situations
everyday, from simple retail theft to homicides.
He chose to specialize in narcotics due to the fact
that they reach a greater segment of our population and cause a very negative effect on the lived of the residents of Bucks
County.
He was the lead investigator in what was then considered the largest narcotics bust in Bucks County history in 1990 when he was instrumental in seizing over $1 million in cash from
a local drug dealer.

Township for his efforts. In his career, Det. Baranoski has received
